Another lovely morning with the promise of a very warm day. The road south to Steinkjer was very scenic, passing through villages and lush green farmland but still with plenty of trees around. Inland Norway is very pretty.
Steinkjer itself was unremarkable and we didn't stop. From there we drove to Stiklestad where, in 1030, Olav Haraldsson, king of Norway, fell in battle. He was the last of the Christianising kings of Norway and was canonised by the then Pope shortly after his death. We visited the church there, built in the 1100s and looked around the nearby visitor centre.
It wasn't too far to Trondheim, where we headed for IKEA and spent some time furnishing an imaginary house. Apart from a few things, we'd quite happily throw everything out and start afresh with IKEA. To finish, we ate a very decent meal in the IKEA café. I had to have the Swedish meatballs.
We are overnighting in a camperstop near the centre of Trondheim (N 63.42630, E 10.38196). We were lucky to bag the last available space. We paid for an hour up to 8pm and it's from then till 8am. We have spent a very pleasant evening wandering around the older part of the town, walking over the Old Town Bridge (Gamla Bybroa) and amongst the timbered houses and cafés of the area of Bakklandet. Everywhere we are seeing joggers. Below are a couple of photos from online. I omitted to take any! The colours are rather more vivid than the reality.

An attempt at a shorter blog tonight as it has been a full day and I would like to be heading for an early night.
It was hard to drag ourselves away from the idyllic campsite. A short stroll along the waterside, and an abortive attempt to lie in a hammock (I fell out!), although Geoff is adept at it, and we were on our way. Today's detour was to Stikelstad, to learn about King/Saint Olav, responsible for bringing Christianity to the country in the 11th Century, who died here in the process. The 12th Century Church was beautiful.
Reaching today's destination, Trondheim, we stopped at IKEA, and enjoyed an excellent three course meal and coffee, followed by a tour of the place. Always enjoyable. Who says we don't live the high life. In the city itself we bagged the only available place in the Ola Stadium car park, where overnight parking is allowed and free, and set off for a walking tour of the city in the cool of the evening, after a beautiful summers day. We managed to see most of it, including the Gothic Cathedral, Bishop's Palace and lovely Old Town by the river.
We need to be away by 8 in the morning!
